Last week's presentations

Please find below the PPTs from last week introducing the final project (without the videos). You should make sure you refer to your booklets for more detailed info.

Remember - the process should be:
  • Choice of genre
  • Research into genre/ representative products (at least five films + an overview)
  • From this, ideas about target audience, typical representations and insitutions involved with production
  • This then feeds into your planning

Continuity project - this just got real

All but one of the continuity projects have now been posted. I would urge you to visit each other's blogs in order to look at the work and comment - fairly but objectively - in order to support each other's progress. Ideally, you will get into the habit of reviewing each other's blogs as well as maintaining your own, since you may be able to offer each other support and advice.

The last thing I need you to do is export a DVD standard version of your project. This is easy enough to do in Prem Pro; not quite sure about iMovie - basically, I need a high quality widescreen mpeg or m2v/ wav file. If you don't know how to do this, you'll need to bring your Mac in so we can work it out.

You need to remember that the aim of everything we've done on a practical level this term has been to train you up to be able to do everything you need to do to achieve a top level in the final piece. This includes both the emphasis on blogging and the range of camera/ editing techniques you've been asked to explore. The important things is that you now apply all of these ideas in your final piece. It goes without saying that this needs to be your best work, but it will only be so if you remember to use everything you have been taught - detailed research, effective planning, well-organised shoot, range of shots, careful editing, solid continuity and so on. I've seen many students take their foot off the pedal at this stage and end up with final pieces which aren't as good as their preliminary work.

The bottom line is, to paraphrase from Bad Boys II, "this... just got real!"

Final Project

Your final project will be set in the lessons next week. Please see below for details, including timescale, deadlines and expectations. As with everything we have done this year, all materials you produce - planning, research and production materials as well as evaluation - should be posted on the blog. To reinforce previous expectations:
  • A minimum of three detailed postings per week (but moving to more when production begins in the new year)
  • Evidence of detailed research linked directly to planning
  • Consistent use of photographs and video clips to support work done
Blogs will be checked on a weekly basis

Out of lesson on Thursday

I am not in school for the lesson on Thursday (p2). Ideally, you will all be editing your continuity projects; if you have not got that far you should (at the least) be making sure that your blog is completely up to date with coverage of your progress so far.
